English KS3 - Useful Information

Throughout years 7 to 9, the English schemes of work aim to open up a world of inspiration and creativity for our pupils, while also developing skills that are essential for creating independent and informed citizens. It is a chance to discover how literature makes sense of the world through stories, poems, novels and plays. A selection of the literature studied includes, but is not limited to:

Gangsta Granny – David Walliams

Boy – Roald Dahl

Holes – Louis Sacher

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas – John Boyne

Private Peaceful – Michael Morpurgo

My Sister Lives on the Mantelpiece – Annabel Pitcher

The Undrowned Child - Michelle Lovric

Stone Cold – Robert Swindells

A selection of Shakespeare plays

Through the teaching of literature, we build pupils’ literacy and language skills in order to prepare them for their progression into Key Stage 4. The study of language skills includes reading a variety of continuous and non-continuous extracts, selecting and locating key information, inferring and comparing, and synthesising and summarising.
