This Qualification is equivalent to 1 GCSE.  The specification sets out the knowledge, understanding, and skills required to work within the hospitality Industry. Students will learn information about job roles, working skills, menu design, cooking and presentation of food, business procedures, polices and legislation, food spoilage and contamination, principles effecting food safety, sustainability, marketing, food processing and production and evaluation of practical work.  Students will have the opportunity to explore a large and diverse industry by listening to guest speakers and going out to visit the different hospitality sectors. Throughout Year 10 students will acquire knowledge and practice the acquisition of food preparation skills, enabling them to produce technical and skillful dishes as part of their controlled assessment practical tasks.  Over the 2 years students will complete 1 External written exam and 3 Internal pieces of coursework.  With an option of completing an additional qualification—Jamie Oliver Level 2 in Home Cooking Skills which is equivalent to  ½  B at GCSE.
