Fantastic Results and  celebrations all around on GCSE results day

QEH Year 11’s outcomes were a cause for celebration as we maintained our strong track record for success. Across Wales GCSE outcomes are down on last year as results move closer to pre-pandemic levels. QEH’s strong performance at A*-C off-sets the well-publicised squeeze at the top end of GCSE results.

Year 11 have to be praised for their hard work and positive approach to their examinations as we returned to normal exams. The dedication and commitment of our staff ensured that pupils were well prepared and well motivated, in their approach to the exams. This team effort between pupils and staff is evident in these fantastic results. Well done everyone!

• 19% of our pupils achieved at least 5 GCSEs or equivalent at grade A* or A
• 74% of pupils achieved at least 5 GCSEs or equivalent at A*-C – significantly above the Welsh average
• 2% of pupils achieved 5 GCSEs or equivalent including English and Maths
• 7% A*-G or equivalent – above the average for Wales
• 100% of Year 11 pupils leave with a recognised qualification

As anticipated and widely publicised, this year has seen a return to the pre-covid levels of marking and grading by the exam boards. Students faced normal examination conditions for the first time in three years. Marking of papers and assessment were back in line with pre-covid guidance.

We are delighted to be here to celebrate with our students this morning as they receive their results and to support them as they embark on their future pathways whether that be at university, apprenticeships or the world of work. We are very pleased to say that QEH continues to build on its trend for outstanding Post 16 achievement with strong outcomes that are in line with our excellent 2019 pre-covid results.

Reflecting on our moto Ymlaen Gyda’n Gilydd/Moving Forward Together, our staff have continued to work exceptionally hard to support our learners in coming to terms with a full exams programme. On this AS and A Level Results Day we would also like to take this opportunity to thank our whole community for their continued support. As always, our focus continues to be one of developing individual potential, and in this context we have exceeded our outcomes from 2019 in two out of three categories and matched the third:

• 29% of grades awarded were A*-A – in line with 2019 outcomes
• 77% of grades awarded were A*-C – an increase on 2019
• 97% of grades awarded were A*-E – up on 2019

During a summer of Commonwealth & European Games, QEH has succeeded in achieving its very own Gold with a set of outstanding exam results.

· Our top ten pupils once again performed spectacularly, achieving 110 A* or A grades between them.

· 25% of our pupils achieved at least 5 GCSEs at grade A* or A

· 78% of pupils achieved at least 5 GCSEs at A*-C

· 232 Year 11 pupils leave with a recognised qualification

· 64.2% of pupils achieved 5 GCSEs including English and Maths

2021 – Despite the challenges that this year has brought it is a day to celebrate success at QEH

Our staff are very proud of the commitment this year group demonstrated throughout their time in school and the positive attitude they displayed throughout their seven years at QEH. We would want to wish them all the very best with all their future plans and aspirations. Our focus continues to be one of developing individual potential and in this context:

· Our top ten pupils once again achieved spectacular outcomes achieving 30 A* grades and 4 A grades between them – well done!

· 49% of grades awarded were A*-A

· 89% of grades awarded were A*-C

· 100% of grades awarded were A*-E

· No pupils left without a recognised qualification

2021 – In an Olympic year QEH gives a gold medal performance!

This year in particular reflects more than ever our school motto; Ymlaen Gyda’n Gilydd/ Moving Forward Together as our staff have worked exceptionally hard to support our learners through difficult times and to award them the outcomes they deserve. Our focus continues to be one of developing every individuals’ potential.

· Our top ten pupils once again achieved spectacular outcomes achieving 136 A*-A grades between them – Outstanding!

· Almost 25% of pupils were awarded were 5 or more A*-A grades

· 86% of pupils were awarded 5 or more A*-C grades or equivalent

· A fantastic Wider Points Score of 541.39 and Capped 9 Points Score of 414

· No pupils left without a recognised qualification

· 21 subjects had 100% pass rates

Today, we were very privileged to have a visit to the school from the new Minister for Education and Welsh Language in Wales, Mr Jeremy Miles. This was his first visit to a school in Carmarthenshire, and one of his first visits to a secondary school in Wales. During the visit we were able to share with him some of our recent successes, including our orchestra winning First Place in the Urdd Eisteddfod and Canolfan Elfed’s Silver Award in the Pearson National Teacher’s Awards.
